As our eyes play a fundamental role in learning, it is recommended that all children have their eyes examined before entering school and yearly thereafter.

Vision Therapy
Vision Therapy
There is more to your eyes than just having “20/20” vision. Many people suffer from eyestrain and headaches during reading and computer tasks. More importantly, many children struggle and unfortunately fall behind with reading and school work during their formative years. Binocular vision dysfunction is a way to describe a inability or insufficient coordination of the eyes as they work together. During tasks which are performed up close, such as reading and computer work, our eyes are called upon and muscles are put into action to allow us to have clear, comfortable vision. A lack of coordination between the eyes, weak muscles, or even minor uncorrected prescription can make these tasks very difficult.
Tracking issues while reading or having to use a ruler or finger to follow along while reading is a sign that there may be a binocular vision issue at play. Other symptoms include; headaches through the forehead or around the eyes while reading. Seeing text go in and out of focus while reading or printing. Rubbing eyes while reading in attempt to clear vision. As well, a general distraction or avoidance of near tasks.
Occasionally, even a minor binocular vision dysfunction can lead to children falling behind in school, or even being considered having a learning disability or being hyperactive. A thorough binocular vision work-up is recommended for anyone who suffers from any symptoms during near work. Specialized eye exercises and vision therapy for most cases, can easily treat binocular vision issues. Additionally, if a binocular vision issue is the source, near symptoms can quickly disappear and subsequently reading ability and comfort will greatly improve.
